Michael Curtiz’ “Casablanca” is now on HD–DVD and it promises to be a brilliant winner. How can we forget the famous line “Here’s looking at you kid.” Every time I see that part of the movie I am moved to pieces. Suddenly Rick (Humphrey Bogart) doesn’t seem cynical and harden. He is now the gentle giant with Ilsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman) his lost love. What about Rick’s guarded line, ” I don’t mind a parasite. I object to a cut-rate one.” I am sure you can think of someone to tell that to…

Let’s understand that Casablanca is not just a wartime love story. O.K. it’s romantic, but it’s also mysterious, intriguing and funny. The movie had a message, which still resonates today. It dealt with issues of liberation, duty, sacrifice, and even threw politics to the mix. It’s a timeless movie. Many have tried to emulate it and have failed–there is only one Casablanca.

If you bought the 1998 DVD–you’ll end up getting this one too. We will be able to appreciate HD’s crispy, shiny, silky smooth presentation of this Oscar® winning movie.
